Comprehensive History and Achievements

Founding and Early Years

RHT Holding Ltd, originally known as Rose Hill Transport Group, was founded in 1952 by entrepreneur Juggarnath Goburdhun. With his initial purchase of a bus, while based at Forest Side, he began to lay the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of public transport in Mauritius.

By 1954, he had established Rose Hill Transport Limited in alliance with other bus operators to service the growing transportation needs between Rose-Hill and Port-Louis. This collaborative effort marked the beginning of RHT’s pivotal role in the development of Mauritius public transport.

Growth and Expansion

From its modest beginnings with a fleet of five buses, RHT expanded dramatically. By the 1960s, the fleet had grown to 90 buses operating along 12 routes, transporting 30,000 passengers daily. A significant milestone was reached in 1962 when Rose Hill Transport introduced the first double-decker bus in Mauritius, an event celebrated with a large banquet attended by notable figures including Sir Harold Walter

Challenges and Restructuring

The 1970s brought considerable challenges for RHT, with the 1975 student protest and 1971 workers strikes impacting operations. However, under the leadership of Sanjiv Goburdhun, who became managing director in 1992, the company embarked on significant restructuring. By the mid-1990s, the original name of the company was changed to RHT Holding Limited, reflecting its broader scope and diversified interests.

Over the past 70 years, RHT has not only navigated numerous challenges but has also seized opportunities to innovate and expand. Its commitment to sustainability and community engagement continue to drive its efforts to provide efficient and eco-friendly transportation solutions. Looking forward, RHT aims to maintain its leadership position by embracing technological advancement and expanding its reach beyond traditional markets.

Introduction of the first buses with automatic transmission in Mauritius in 1954.
We launched our technological branch in 1998, pioneering GPS tracking services.
Winning the Mauritius Business Excellence Award and achieving ISO 9001:2008 certification
Expanding our reach to Africa in 2013 with RHT Africa and further with FLO Mobility Services

Mr. Sornum is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK, the Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants and affiliate member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. He has several years’ experience in finance and logistics in Mauritius.

Non-Executive Director

Mr. Kureeman, born in 1956, was appointed to the Board on January 1, 2007. Mr. Kureeman is also a Director of RHT Bus Services Ltd and of the venture companies of the Group

Yoosuf Mohammad Kureeman

Independent Non-Executive Director

Ms. Desai holds honors degrees in English Literature from Delhi University and in History of Art from The National Museum in New Delhi, India. She is currently completing her PhD at the University of Birmingham, UK

Meha Desai

Non-Executive Director

Mr. Ravindra Goburdhun, born in 1958, holds a BSc Science from the University of Udaipur, India. He worked for 10 years in the hotel sector in France. He is also a Director on RHT Investments Ltd, the investment arm of the Group, FleetPro Services Ltd (previously known as Fleet Africa Indian Ocean Ltd).
